Open to amateurs and professionals competing for points and prizes for the Grand Championship Pit Masters event and a chance to compete at the Jack Daniel’s World Invitational Barbeque Competition (Lynchburg, Tennessee, USA), The World Food Championships (Orange Beach, Alabama, USA), and American Royal Championships (Kansas City, Missouri, USA).

The coveted prize for the “Grand Champion” will be $1,000 per competition and a year’s worth of bragging rights. Other plaques, ribbons, lesser cash and non-cash prizes will be awarded to “Reserve Grand Champion” ($750), “3rd Place Overall” ($450) and first through tenth place teams in each category (please click the Team Event information link or the Rules link for details). During the competition, the public will be able to stroll along the front-of-line to witness the creations in progress and interact with the chefs. Who knows? Maybe even get a secret tip or two? Maybe a sample?

bbq2“Wing Thing” Grilling Competition

A fun-filled event that will not follow the same format as the professional competition. Anyone can enter this free competition and teams will be allowed to use propane, wood, or charcoal barbeques to create their famous wing recipe for this “People’s Choice” event.

Cooking Demonstrations – Learn the true art of Southern style barbeque with a Kansas City Pro!

jim2Come to the Whitecap Pavilion to meet legendary pitmaster Jim Johnson, who will offer the lowdown on cooking competition-grade southern-style barbecue in your own backyard.

Jim is a Kansas City Barbecue Society master barbecue instructor, and highly successful pitmaster, with 76 Grand Championship wins over a 29-year career. He is a man with a serious passion for barbecue. Ask him a question and his responses are expansive and eloquent, spoken with the offhand confidence of someone who could talk for hours on the subject without scratching the surface of his knowledge.

Jim and his wife Becky teach classes all over the world, arming locals with all they need to know to produce southern-style fare at home.

Jim and Becky will be doing demonstrations and will be available for one-on-one conversations for the entire festival weekend. Anyone with a passion for outdoor cooking will be inspired to take their skills to the next level once spending time with Jim, so mark your calendars to attend this very special event.

Jim and Becky hope to see “y’all” there.

Barbeque Vending

Attendees will have the opportunity to purchase authentic lip-smacking barbeque and Southern style cuisine from our barbeque vending units.
